Another year, another Comic-Con gone by.

I have to say that I'm non-plussed about the convention: crowds, lines to stand in to get into another line to get a ticket to stand in yet a third line. And this was just for a SDCC exclusive-- Hall H line-waiters started camping out the previous afternoon!

On the bright side, AGSMA had a fantastic masquerade skit and took Best Presentation in a year of strong presentations. I wasn't in the skit-- I just hung out and helped out backstage. If I come back for SDCC, it would be because I love my AGSMA crew and would be masquerading.

My big problem with the con now isn't just the crowds-- it's also that the media is taking unfair advantage of the crowds and publicity and sending shows there that really don't belong (but who would pass up all the publicity?). Honestly- "How I Met Your Mother"?!? WTF.

As usual it was the panoply of great costuming and lots of stuff to buy. I settled for a couple of books from Stuart Ng books and some Stan Sakai/Usagi collections.

Zombies were big again. They had two nights of Zombie Walks. There was also a big set of displays and food trucks across the street where the con had the "Interactive" area. I like the idea of off-site events like this: spreads the crowds and lets you experience exhibits with fewer crowds. Seeing the Smurfs with a big display right next to The Walking Dead was also pretty cool.

"Food idea odf the flavor." <-- huh?

Weather was fantastic: cool and grey and a little muggy, but nice. For once I should have packed some long-sleeved shirts.

Wish our paths would've crossed! We were totally overwhelmed with our first SDCC, but it was a fun weekend. I'll never complain about crowding in a furcon dealers den again! :3

I had no idea you'd be going down-- I definitely would have sought you guys out. I'm good at first-timer advice.

Also, seeing your post-- I did see you! Just didn't know it was you! Very cute cat steampunk!

Yeah-- it seems like such an obvious idea...wonder why someone didn't think of this years ago. Thank goodness there was a line or I'd've had six.

Oh, it looks like such fun! I've never been because I live so far away (and hotel room reservation is a competitive sport for those few minutes that rooms are available), but I want to go and have costuming fun! I have two costumes (fursuits, actually) that I've been wanting to make and this sort of event is exactly the place that people would appreciate these two characters.

A friend of mine wants to hit it up for her 35 birthday (I think next year), and I'm hoping she'll let me piggy-back tag-along, because I don't want to go alone. Any advice for a possible first-timer?

Yow.

Even if I had the opportunity, I'm not sure I'd go - even back in 1997, the event was gigantic, and by all accounts, it's only grown much larger and busier. Still, with brave souls as yourself willing to brave the swathes of attendees, we can nonetheless enjoy some of the spectacle. ^_^

(Good to see some real food around! Did you try the crabcakes? =:9)

Thanks for all the pretzels and Diet Coke? Did anyone take you up on those? Well you'd drink them anyway.
And thanks for all the backstage wrangling too! It was a fantastic team this year.
