L.A. is finally getting its dose of summer fun (not). In the Valley we're getting temps in the low 100's-- which isn't normally horrible-- except this year it's accompanied by a lot of monsoonal moisture. 100f with 10% humidity is baking hot, but not uncomfortable and the temps plummet after dark, sometimes by more than 50 degrees.

With the humidity, not only is it unpleasant during the day but it does not cool off appreciably at night. At normal dogwalk time it was still in the 80's with about the same humidity (about 75%). I've been working late on a project, so I waited until maximum cooling off time: nothing doing. At 3AM this morning it was still 70f with 75% humidity. Barely tolerable-- at least there wasn't any sun, so no hats needed!

This week I'm on crush-time with this project, so it's work in the shop all day (and well into the night). Of course, temps are predicted in the 100's+. I'm doing a lot of gluing, so that means fans blowing air in/out, no air conditioning and working in a room that's hovering at about 100f. Fun, fun, fun!

Very hot indeed. Awful that it's not cooling down at night. We count on that.

Ugh, that's what I hated about Florida ... Constantly humid, you'd step out the door and be instantly drenched with sweat. And nighttime was no relief ... It MIGHT start to cool off 3 or 4 am, tho still damp, and then the sun would come up and it'd start all over again.

Oh, and BUGS BUGS BUGS BUGS :P

Oh, yeah-- bugs! Thanks for the perspective wake-up call! At least we don't have bugs (though I am ever-alert for orb-weaver webs across dark sidewalks!). So yeah-- Florida wins the "My Place Is Most Like Hell" award!

And I will say that though the temps are higher, we are still not as "soupy" with humidity as a lot of areas are.

And it IS the humidity. Up in the panhandle, it didn't nessisarily get crazy hot, but the moisture would instantly wilt freshly pressed uniforms and keep ink from drying (several of the graphics guys kept lit cigarettes at their desks as much as heat sources as to service their habit)
Mazatlan has the double whammy of very high temps and humidity in summer, that's why I neglect my dear Mother so.

Very cool detail about the lit cigarettes-- I vaguely remember seeing something like this in a scene from a movie (which of course I can't remember the film). And yes, the South wins when it comes to discomfort and weather. I thought Mazatlan had more of a tropical heat/humidity? Like Hawaii, where it rarely goes much higher than the mid-80's.

Yikes yeah... you summed that up pretty well!... I remember my first time in Louisiana in Summertime... at 10pm just stepping outside felt like stepping into a warm bath ...with clothes on.. but no evaporation... and zillions of bugs buzzing around the lights above ;P

Bug tornado! I saw one when I was in Minneapolis: thousands of bugs swirl around the porch lamp in a horrible bug whirlpool! I was mesmerized... and highly discouraged from night walks.

arrrgh! Ah wish ya could git a little AC, at least in the evening and at night... :/

Oh, the AC is on in the house. The dogs appreciate it. But I'm working in the shop, which (because of fumes) needs to have the windows open and the exhaust fan sucking in fresh, hot air in from the outside. I'm pretty sure I'm responsible for the current heat wave because I -have- to work in the shop this week.
