Apache was getting a little squirrelly from all of the bangs and pops of the locals setting off illegal fireworks, so I wanted to escape with them to a place that was -quiet-.

Friends here had some good suggestions, like high-fire danger areas (they're really strict about fireworks), a remote forest, Canada, etc., but the best was an invitation by Iisaw to visit the ranch.

I packed up dogs and some grilling meat and set off for Oakhurst.

Best 4th Ever.

Dogs had a wonderful time getting filthy daily (and sometimes twice and thrice daily). I worked off points hiking around the ranch. And it was -quiet-

Thanks again, Carol and Iisaw!

Her coat is totally to blame. With R0ndo, the burrs and foxtails mostly just fall out. With Apache, they take out mortgages. She (and R0ndo) both have what is termed "semi-rough" coats. Usually (like with R0ndo) this means they have longer guard hairs with little/no undercoat. Apache is the exact opposite: all undercoat with no guard hairs. So she's like the fuzzy side of velcro, welcoming burrs with open arms.

This -does- make her extraordinarily floofy and soft, though. When she's clean, she's a plush-dog.
