furtech: (Fireworks)

The 4th of July is coming up in a few days. I need to find somewhere to hide with the dogs so they are minimally traumatized. I give them ear-plugs and while this helps R0ndo (he's cool when the booms are muffled), Apache will still be a furry package of fear. She doesn't even like the little "pop" that the speakers make when the computer is turned off (something about square waves, I guess).

Any suggestions within driving range* of Los Angeles appreciated!

*Let's say that reasonable driving range is a couple of hours-- or I'd seriously consider Canada...

Variously, Dru and later, Bear, would regard fireworks sounds as intrusions and react in angry defense of their territory. With more restrictions on fireworks locally, the problem is in decline, relatively, only a single "pop" in the distance so far today. I'll be over at Susan and Maggie's for the 4th, watching old movies and eating too much, until the big display on Lake Union, to which we would have a great view within walking distance. I'd guess they are going to dope their pups for the duration.

I remember how much Jazmine hated fireworks/gunshots. I take it the shooting-celebrating has died down considerably in your neighborhood?

Fortunately, Apache doesn't freak out, but she does sadly skulk away and hide under things. As noted in a previous post, I'm feeling particularly mother-hen-ish and want to prevent even the tiniest trauma to them. I'll probably just end up staying at home and closing all the windows and making sure the idiot neighbor-teens don't set the world on fire.
