FYI Costumers!

I can't get to this (drat!), but others may be interested (I'm looking at you, Karisu and Dany!) :

LAOperacostumesale

I wonder if they're going to sell off any of the actual animal costumes from Mr. Fox? I may try to call them and ask. Could be a lot of cool costumes and accessories there. Just imagine-- a *real* opera cape!

Maybe the [livejournal.com profile] mognetcentral and the girls can stop by for you.

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oooooo....!!!

I think they'd enjoy it! Plus, you can also hit the "It's A Wrap" store, too! AND FD!

Ah, I assume you're in Seattle right now and can't swing it?
Might stop by Saturday before heading up to AniMagic.

Seattle? No, I've been back for a week+. It's a friend's birthday party this weekend and I RSVP'd before I got the notice about the L.A. Opera sale. Border collies and sheep and cake up in the mountains!

You're going to Animagic? I didn't realize it was this weekend...

Yeah it's not much hype for it.
If you want me to pick up some animal costumes, LMK

If you're going or could go, I'd love to get a phone call: if they -do- have any of the creature costumes, I may well be interested! It's probably a better thing that I don't go: I've already blown my costume-buying budget for this year and I would be sorely tempted by the Elizabethan and Don Giovanni styled costumes (plus, they'd have "fat" sized for guys like me!!).

WIBBLE!!!

This isn't here in the area is it???

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Not BArea, no-- it's the Los Angeles Opera's costume department, located in Downtown Los Angeles. But between this and "It's A Wrap," it may be worth a trek down...

[identity profile] lironess.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Is there a link or an address? I am at the 405 and the 10 right around the corner and in great need of a costume for myself since I am sewing other peoples....

Here's a Yelp link has a good description and map:

http://www.yelp.com/events/los-angeles-la-opera-halloween-costume-sale

It's just south of Little Tokyo apparently.

Also, for costume bits: "It's A Wrap"-- you're about 5 minutes from their West Side Store:

It's A Wrap
1164 S. Robertson Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90035
310-246-WRAP

See my previous LJ post for details. They have a ton of costume bits that can accessorize almost anything. Some things are bargains, some are pricey (because, for instance, it was used on "Hanna Montana").

Enjoy!

Wow thanks too for the other address! I just found out about It's a Wrap a few days ago but I did not realize they were quite that close :)I know where I will be this week lol.

[identity profile] lironess.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
LOL that was your post where I found it :)

Given this and the It's a Wrap posts, I've realised there are times when I'm rather jealous I don't live in the states.

Ugh. I really wish I was there.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox was commissioned for the LA Opera; I didn't go to see it because the Downtown News pretty much ragged on it. Fred Patten went to see it, and gave it a thumbs down, both as an Opera, and as an Anthro adaptation. I don't know if Fred ever read the book, he probably has, but it is sort of one of a long list of disappointments about the LA Opera, in their preference for Minimalist stagings and productions, of avant gard interpretations of more classic opera, with out the Grandness of it. Grand Opera SHOULD BE overwhelmingly overblown, and in this regard, the San Francisco Opera Company runs circles around what LA has put on.

I blame Placido Domingo, myself...

******

But the costumes? Yeah, a real Opera Cape (or Spanish Cape) sould be pretty nice.

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2009-10-08 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Haha! I was part of that group that saw FmF! The animals wore very stylized masks (yeah-- that minimalist stuff). Still, there are a number of pieces I wouldn't mind having, even the fox masks.

The L.A. Opera hosted (but did not produce) a production of "Where the Wild Things Are" and that was beautifully produced, though having Max played by a woman was disturbing. the Wild Things costumes were *amazing*! I geeked out and went to the stage door and asked if I could talk with the stage manager. I had to wait a while, but he came out and agreed to give us a mini-tour of the costumes. Unbelievable! And HEAVY! But something that (clearly) had a profound effect on me.
