Wow-- pretty decent earthquake just now. Very close (by the type of shaking). I'm guessing about 4.5-ish? And epicenter around Sylmar. Still feeling some residual rumbling. Not even strong enough to toss stuff off the shelf, but certainly noticeable-- perfect "tourist quake".

EDIT: Yep! Pegged it: 4.5 NNW of Chatsworth. I got the distance right, but it was in the opposite direction, putting it around Towsley Canyon (where we hike a lot). Probably shook some boulders loose: not a great place to be during even a small tembler!

I didn't feel it, being down in San Diego, but I monitor earthquakes and noticed that one about 15 minutes after it happened.

Another person I know said they got scared because it felt just like how the famous 1994 Northridge earthquake felt when it started off. Were you there for that one? Did you have the same impression? Glad you're okay.

Always stay ready and be prepared for something stronger. Quakes like these are good reminders for us to make sure we're ready and have plans in place for when a big quake happens.

I live in Ventura County, so I didn't feel that, thankfully (I don't think...). However, if I lived in Van Nuys still (yes, I was living there during the Northridge quake, too), I would have felt a really bad sense of deja vu.

I'll bet! Considering where they estimated the epicenter (about 4 miles NNW of Chatsworth), that would put the quake...oh...about 30 feet to your left.

I'm guessing no damages and pets ok? How did the dogs react?

I was here for the Northridge Quake: this one was nothing like it-- just a little temblor. The '94 quake started off with a long, low rumble (barely perceivable) that kept going and going...and then rising in crescendo. Oddly, very much like the dramatic build in a climactic piece of music. And then the crescendo kept going and going, dying down but still shaking after many tens of seconds.

Typically, there are three kinds of small-quake "feels": "truck hitting side of house" (one big jolt); rolling, coming in waves (like your house is on a flatbad on a city street); shake-shake-shake like a big hand giving your house a friendly (but irresponsible) shake. This one was like the last--the notable motion lasting 1-3 seconds.

We've been having a lot of them recently-- hopefully pressure releases and not another big one.

People up this way are describing it more in the rolly way. Actually a nearby person here, who was also here for the Northridge quake, got really freaked because she said the start of it felt exactly the same.
