These are the big days of the con-- everyone's here and activities are building towards the big event of the con: the Saturday Puppet show.
Friday:

Here’s the full Flickr set for Friday
Lots of costumes around con, with many people fielding several of them over the course of the weekend (or sometimes each day). I got up to the dealer's room, which was much larger than last year (by about twice). Atalon had some wooden masks at his table that a colleague had made: they were amazing-- very organic for carved wood. I'd love to get him to make a wolf mask!
The art show was also much larger than last year with a number of European and Asian (mostly Slavic) artists I'd never seen before (though many have FA and DA accounts).
A highlight of the day was seeing Stan Sakai give a chalk-talk about Yokai: Japanese goblins, spirits and supernatural creatures. His informative talk, combined with his art, made for a very enjoyable session. I'll put this out: Stan makes a *wonderful* GoH with his storytelling, widely-traveled life and his great art.
I went off to lunch with my American posse, Frysco and Aeto. At a restaurant nearby I discovered the joy of schnitzel. I'd had it once, as a child, and only remembered being bitterly disappointed by the lack of hotdog, bun and kraut. In the years since, my tastes have become much more Catholic: I was in love with the breaded, fried and pounded pork cutlet. Mmmmm...though it is practically Pure Evil from the Weight Watchers canon.
That evening we again went out and wandered the town: I'm not sure if it's the time of year or if Germans just like festivals and fairs, but there were a lot of them that weekend. Ate more schnitzel. Tried to walk/activity-point it off and probably failed miserably.
There was a theatrical production at the con: a group had organized a play, complete with props, backdrops and costumes. I was impressed. There were some pacing problems (they could have done some things in front of the curtain while sets were being changed behind), but over all an impressive production. I hope they do this again.
I spent most of the evening hanging out with people while the 2 and Kage show continued in the background. The dance went late into the night (or early into the morning, depending on how you count time). I eventually staggered off to be around 4am. Turning on the tv, I found something so surreal that it actually leapt ahead of " Bernd das Brot " as the most surreal thing on German TV: "Hogan's Heroes" in German! I'll save that for another post, too.
Saturday:

Here’s the Saturday set
I spent the day wandering the town and shopping, since Sunday is a day of rest and virtually all of the shops are closed. I visited the Pink House and the Magdeburg Cathedral, both of which are impressive in their own ways. More of those in another post.
I got back in plenty of time for the puppet show, "Ogwambi". Cheetah and his group (which was most of the convention staff) pulled off another impressive show that a great story and plenty of humor and drama to make for a spectacular finish to the convention. Plus, the show had hyenas in it! Always a plus.
After this was Big Blue Fox's big dance and it was packed until after dawn, from all reports. I wandered in and out of it, but spent most of my time in the lobby talking and opening up Kinder Eggs (looking for a specific toy). A number of the group got into and out of one costume after another, this being the last hurrah for the con.
