Gordy, the Farm Dog

One thing that kept me sane during my stay in TMoN was the farm dog, Gordy. Gordy is a "she", named because when they found her as a stray pup she looked like a big, fat gourd. As far as they can tell, she's part Golden Retriever and part Husky. Gordy hit the jackpot on genetics: the nurturing, friendliness of the golden and the smarts of a husky. Sweetest dog in the world.

Gordy's big thing wasn't jumping up on people: she loved to be belly-scratched, so she would walk up to you and flop down on the ground, looking hopeful.

Taking hikes around the farm, there is no better company than Gordy.

Normally, when the kids are at school and we were working, Gordy would trot over to the neighbor's house (about a quarter mile down the road) to play with their dogs. As soon as things picked up back home, you could count on seeing her dutifully trotting back home through the tall grass. During thunderstorms, Gordy hung out around the shop-- happy for the company during those stressful times.

Best dog in the Midwest!
