Baby birds
Apr. 23rd, 2005 07:40 pmFledgelings, actually.
I noticed Frieda snuffling in one of the boxes under the carport. She had heard the cheepings and flutterings of three wren fledglings whose parents had nested in a cottage cheese box left in a cardboard box on the ground (not the safest location to raise a family, but
martes tells me this is common for wrens). They could fly, sort-of. They would flutter a dozen feet and land awkwardly, usually on the ground. Although I was concerned about their safety, Roz assured me that if they were making short (if clumsy) flights, they'd be out of the nest for good within the day. And she was right!

Birds in a box
Bold explorer or cat-food?
Their nest, with un-hatched eggs
Though they could barely land on a branch, they found the side of the garage easier to land on?
All of them seemed to have survived-- they're lucky Frieda's so old (yet still keeps cats out of the yard).
