Good news, Bad news

Good News: New Computer!!! I can finally use programs less than six years old! My first USB port! W00T! [FYI: my last was computer was my faithful Power Mac 8600, which lasted a whopping 12 years before starting to get dotty].

Bad News: New Computer... new operating system to learn, new programs because some of my old ones either haven't been made in ten years or never got to OSX. Also, in the transfer of data I'm having to re-learn where everything is now.

Net result? Generally happy: such advances in just a dozen years...!

My first USB port! W00T!

Why am I getting visions of a pre-school children's book titled My First USB Port? :>

So, what type of machine is this new computer? I'm assuming it's Apple, of course.

It's a big, shiney, silver G4 Soopercomputer! And fortunately the trauma has been minimal (though I'll probably be contacting you wrt all my messed-up IRC settings...).

hehheh... not really, but I do gravitate toward macintoshes :>
Congrats on the new machine!
I've been workin' at 'em for near 15 yaaars.. and just got my new one about a yaaaar and half ago. I haven't yet convinced myself to jump ship from system 9 though :>

Hey, and thanks again for the fuzzybug comment!

Your journal was a keen read too... looks like we've got hiking and disney animation in common too!.. and heaven knows I've been reading comix spawned from your group efforts since like, the early 80s *warble*
So I tip my hat to you, and welcome ya to my internettled inner sanctum, if ya have some time to burn... there's quite a bit of reserved reading in thar... for what it's worth, for those stepping across the feathered threshold :>

Best wishes!.... C.

The jump to a G4 w/OSX was a big decision... but that's why I took so long: as long as I had to transition, I might as well do it all the way to OSX. So far the new OS isn't that bad: I'm having more problems catching up to all the new, improved versions of the software I've been using for years. And I did hedge my bets by getting a G4 that also has the OS9 system installed.

Thanks for the props!

ooops... one more relevant note

to your post in mine..
On most hikes we do bring dogs, when going with my old office group. Usually one or two german sheps, since some of the associates like to give their dogs exercise like that *wags feathers*

We took a rookie hike dog on this one, and after a couple of crossings, he really took to the water! Not like some other ones that have gone, but still pretty energetic. :>

Some hikes we have to pack extra water for them, but not this one.. just a fold-up water dish and an empty bottle for the river water. Also just have to make sure they're a somewhat obedient dog, so they don't run off too far, or go chompin' other hikers! *hehheh*..

Frieda's great on the trail, but she's getting old. Six years ago I'd've still taken her on the Bridge hike, but I worry about her slipping these days (her muscle tone is down). Still, I'm sure I'll make the hike someday!
