*pointless anecdote warning*

So I was eating some Oreos when I actually -look- at a cookie that felt weird (in a braille-sort of way): instead of the age-old logo, there is a large, bas-relief "L". Hmmm. I look at the package: "Win $$$ if you spell "MILK"! I save the cookie. Over the next couple of days, I find "M" and "I". I'm vaguely horrified that I've eaten the all-valuable "K" (I was 3/4 through the package when I found that first "L"). Yet, now that all I have left are the letter cookies, I can't bring myself to eat them (hope blooms eternal). I really want them now, too. So I go online and manage to find more details and in TEENY print, they mention that winning packages will spell MILK *and* have a winning certificate enclosed win. D'oh! So I ate the cookies and shook my fist in rage at Nabisco for their stupid contest and empty calories. The end.

No problems-- even if you aren't a winner, at least you still have a bag of Oreos...

The K is probably really, really rare and they give you the other 3 for just that reason -- to get you all excited. Tricky contest people :P

Actually, it's the certificate that accompanies the M-I-L-K letters in each package...but they don't tell you that on the package rules!

heheh yeah... I guess it would have to have a certificate, or you could bake your own winning chomp :9

And if you read the FINER print... it says..

You need the letters P-A-S-T-E-U-R-I-Z-E-D and H-O-M-O-G-E-N-I-Z-E-D...

Mmm.. food Scrabble!

Gah! The number of packages you'd have to eat to get all those letters! Supersize me!

They're no better than what Keebler did a while a go with their Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards cross-promo. They printed a "secret code" on the side of their cookie packages which got entered at the Nick web site for your chance to win stuff.

One night, out of curiosity, I looked at all the packages on the shelf.... they all had EXACTLY the same code.

Guess no one from that shipment was a grand prize winner.

I like the Oscar Meyer mini-van contest, where a common number was accidentally *published* as the winning number! Lawsuite!

It's a conspiracy to make you buy more cookies!

They probably don't mention the certificate so people won't try to feel the package out for 'em!
