Here's the full Flickr set!
I needed to be down in the Costa Mesa area to pick up a computer from a friend. Another more local friend loves to birdwatch at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. I'm less interested in birdwatching, so I did some research and found the Huntington Dog Beach!

Wow-- what a great place! A mile of clean, sandy beaches that you could bring your dog to! And contrary to what some may think, the beach is so clean you would not know it was a dog beach except for the copius number of dogs running around. The owners are scrupulous about picking up after their dogs-- they know that keeping the dog beach alive is up to each person taking care of it.

R0ndo and Apache loved it. R0ndo moreso, because of the lovely frisbee winds and the soft sand to run and jump in. Apache was initially excited, until she drank too much sea water and got a little sick. She kept drinking water from different areas, hoping I guess to find some nice, sweet water (hey-- to a dog it feels like water, is wet like water and smells like water-- so it -must- be water!). She barfed a few times and finally drank the water I brought along.

R0ndo was a frisbee maniac! He would take breaks and run down to the water to cool off in, just like in the creeks and ponds he loves. After a few sips he realized that this was -not- drinking water, and readily drank the tepid, fresh water I brought.

I love the beaches in this area. I find the oil derricks in the distance add a visual flair to scene, particularly at night. They look so "sci-fi".
