July 4th! Dogs and Steak and some cosplay

The July 4th weekend was great, if rather disparately located.

Here's the entire AX set, such as it is
I popped in to Anime Expo for a day (Friday) and managed to pack in everything I wanted to see-- dealer's room (I escaped with funds untouched), cosplayers and good friends. I definitely need to see my AGSMA buds on a more regular basis: I really felt jazzed after seeing Kim and Henry (and Wayne, but that's less of a rarity).
The 4th of July used to be a favorite holiday-- then I got dogs. As much as I like fireworks, I feel bad for them more. Usually I'm at a convention this weekend and they get boarded at a remote kennel (which is nice and quiet). This year I got the bright idea to visit an ailing friend, so up to Oakhurst we went.

Here's the whole dog-filled photo set!
I stopped by "Bob the Butcher" and got some dog bones, dog-burgers and some ribeye steaks, loaded up the real dogs and headed out. The drive was uneventful and traffic was light (unlike the trip home-- forgot about holiday traffic). Arriving at Casa Coyote was like docking in paradise: the dogs were elated and I finally managed to throw off that claustrophobic feeling that had been building in Los Angeles. Oak trees, meadows and two more border collies!
The steaks were garlic'd and grilled perfectly. I'm good with fire-food. (I'm a good cook-- I just don't like following instructions). The dogs got their burgers and a fine time was had by all. A quiet and meaty 4th!
Tas is adorable as ever. She worships Apache, who in turn worships Tay. Everyone worships Tay. Oddly, they show this idolizing by jumping him, distracting him from work and generally annoying him.
The evening was spent watching weird cartoons and a Japanese romantic comedy. We had thought it was by the same person who did "Shaolin Soccer" and "Kung Fu Hustle" (Stephen Chow), but it wasn't (which explained why there had not been a single wacky kung fu battle in the first 20 minutes). Still, a pleasant film.
I took a hike on Sunday with the border pack. The weather was surprisingly hot-- beautiful, but hot (in the 90's). The trail/road is a 3 mile loop with ups and downs (like a ridge hike) and enough water along the way that the dogs had plenty to cool off with. Some of it was pretty muddy and they smelled faintly of organic fertilizer afterward (not an unpleasant smell to a gardener, so it's all good). Apache managed to coat herself with little burrs (it was so thick it was like shark skin!) and even the smooth/semi-rough coats got a dose of them. I swear, you could do a pretty good survey of the local flora by the stuff I pick out of her fur.
I feel great! And just in time to get cracking on work!
