I've been hearing about the mess the Demo-con is going to make of the city next week. Then I realized: I *know* a bunch of people there! I'm curious to hear your takes on the coming week: are you changing any routines? Running screaming? Embracing the historical event? Fearing the apocolypse?

Thankfully I'm far enough away from the mess to avoid it entirely. Going into/out of Boston will be dreadful and I have NO plans to do such.

Jeff had me stealth sign in for a very hilarious entry he recently posted that I HAD to see... so .... yeah. The DNC? I work smack in the middle of it. I can't take anymore days off, so I can't escape it. It will be a joyous event for all. I hope I get on the news after I've run 50% of the populace down with a weedwacker.

It's a waste of time, resources and space. Think about this, they are going basicly CAGE any protestors near the Fleet Center which by the way IS the NORTH STATION COMMUTER TRAIN STATION FOR ALL parts NORTH of the CITY so they are going to SHUT IT COMPLETLY DOWN before people get out of work (before 5 pm) so every one needs to change their work schedules, MASS GEN HOSPITAL is smack dab in the middle of it so God forbid you are pregnant, ill, whathave you and you need your doctor between the hours of 4 PM and 2 AM.

But what is really ludicrous is: (A:) There is only ONE candidate, Kerry on the ballot. GEE WHAT A CHOICE. (B:) Oh and he won't be accepting the nomination until THURSDAY...by the way he almost decided against accepting so he could get more campaign money...imagine the ludicrous farce this would be if he didn't?! (C:)Basicly people in town won't be from Boston. (Except for the Red Sox fans...it's ALSO a RED SOXS V. YANKEES weekend).

But the biggest, and most farcicle and waste of money and giving us un-necessary hassle...

Within the last 15 years Boston has built 2 NEW convention centers. The most recient one is not even 2 years old! So were do they decide to have a CONVENTION? In one of the two basicly UNUSED convention centers, the new one isn't even smack dab in the middle of Mass Transit needs and was built to be LARGER than the one built in the late 80s to accomodate huge crowds. NO! They decide to put it in one of the worst places. OOHH go Democrats.

By the way...Bush or Kerry fans...Kick out the "old" ways (which are basicly the same) vote in RALPH NADER! *S*

I don't know who you are, but I *love* your post! Quality rant! And a friend told me about the horrors of "The Big Dig". And I though Los Angeles was the king of F.U.B.A.R.

Also love your summation of the *three* candidates! At least Nader is running on his own principles and beliefs, in the true spirit of what the presidential elections are supposed to be. I'd only be disappointed in him if he drops out, because that would be the equivalent of selling out.

Well, Nader's still having problems getting on the ballots in some states. I know he recently FILED A LAWSUIT in Texas to get on the Presidential ballot there.

I'd be surprised if Texas doesn't allow Nader on the ballot. Being "Bush Country", I'd think they would welcome any opportunity to split the left-side vote.

Everyone that is voting for Nader, please read up on Nader's serious dark side on the net. He really is a vindictive glory seeker, he preaches one thing and does the exact opposite (sound familiar?). He's a pure Ivory Tower lawyer. You won't believe what you will find out about him. He is the very last person (Ok second behind fallwell) that we would want for a president.

I know the various reasons for voting "not bush and not kerry" but look carefully who you ARE voting for, he just might be everything that you are not voting for the other two for and more!/

Don't get me started. When they first started this Big Dig thing, they said that it would be done by 2003. Now they say it may not be done until 2006. Oh and by the way, they have now been working on South Station Commuter Train Station for about 4 years. And there has been no change. So Boston is just filled with pork bellies...oh I mean mega projects that just don't seem to get done on time.

My ghod! She LIVES! My sympathies-- sounds like it'll be a horror. At least it should only last the week+. Bleah. Oh, and if you see this: I may bail on the Boston Worldcon-- personal stuff on this end and everyone I know at the con will be working it. I still need to get out to NFT, so I may make a trip out in the off-season.

well, I'll pretty much avoid boston altogether for teh entire week it's here ;) so it won't affect me too much. Mostly though it's very surreal that Secret Service has so much power they can almost shut a whole city down.
