Art theft or just iconic?

Every time I see this ad on LJ:



I keep thinking I've seen that coyote head somewhere else. And that this game company just frankensteine'd it onto another piece of art (the body).

Does anyone else have the same feeling? Or better-- do you recognize where the toony coyote head came from or who did it?

I agree that the head is familiar; I was wondering if it was an LJ icon set that Kyoht or Goldenwolf might have done.

It's actually supposed to be a jackal for ONTD's purposes- ONTD got called a bunch of jackals once and they adopted the jackal as their mascot.

Also, I have to point out that this is not a gaming company ad- it's an ad for a moderator for the ontdgames.livejournal.com community. I guess ONTD has spun off into several side communities. So the jackal head on MegaMan is more of a joke than anything that makes them money.

someone tried to convince me to run as mod for ONTD_political. noooooooooo. I'm a just gonna post shit instead. ontd_science has moderators fut they generally don't have to do anything since it never seems to get attacked by spambots or trolls. Usually the only thing the mods sporadically do is remind people to use cuts and not put terrifying pictures above the cut for people that weren't expecting a face full of flesh eating parasite.

I was tracking the traffic on my blog, and saw your journal was one of my sources for traffic in the past month. And I totally went, "what the hell," and had to come investigate because I didn't recognize your username.

I'm not really on ONTD anymore though, so I haven't seen this gaming thing.
