Contrary to what my postings may indicate, my life is 99% pure mundane. Work, dogwalks, sleep.

The exciting event of the last week was my 'frige* finally biting the dust. I -almost- tried to get it repaired, mostly to avoid having to clean it out. I would bet good money that I could find something in there that is older than this unit. Nothing rotty-- more likely rare and expensive chocolate that I never had that Special Occasion to break out. Unlike the rest of my house, the 'frige is clear of stuff that rots: I hate mold and putrid stuff, so it gets cleared out weekly.

The most traumatic aspect to this: taking down fifteen years of refrigerator magnets, pictures, old menus, cartoons, favorite fortune-cookie fortunes, etc. Upside: new, icy-cool 'frige! So clean! Plus, the DWP will give me $30 worth of light bulbs for my old one. Woo.

The weather has affected activities: the dogs are determined to sod the hallways and bedroom with the mudballs they drag in. Run up muddy hill to bark at neighbor-dogs, run back in the house to tell me what good watchdogs they are. The rain was welcome: the ground sucked it right up. Now it's actually -cold- (for L.A.), with temps in the 30-40's at night. I discover that my border collies are not as rugged as my husky was: they're happy to snoogle up somewhere warm; Frieda would be frisky as a puppy in this weather. I still miss her.

This is also the time of the year when I get domestic and go into a cooking frenzy. Fresh chestnuts: time for kuri-gohan! All of the fresh cranberries have inspired me: I want to try making sugar-free cranberry sauce. I was horrified at how many points regular canned cranberry sauce is!

The dogs: they are covered in ticks. Argle-bargle! Roz and I went for a walk in Rice Canyon the other day to get acorns for the jays she feeds. While on the ground picking up nuts, Roz noticed tiny, baby ticks clinging to the grass strands. The dogs-- especially Apache-- tear through the brush. These ticks were so tiny, however, that I am only now finding them as they get blood-engorged. Blargh. Fortunately, the tick spoon works very well (and makes me laugh: Tick + SPOON!!"). I have doused them with Advantix (though I hate the way it get gooey all over their fur). Tick count so far: two on Apache and four on R0ndo.

Greatest find of recent date: Trader Joe's "Just the Clusters: Ginger, Almond and Cashew Granola." This stuff is unique and excellent (particularly if you like ginger).

Thanksgiving this year: Going to head out to Vasquez Rocks with the dogs and re-enact scenes from Star Trek, "The Zanti Misfits" and Power Rangers, followed by turkey and, probably, Ranger-dodging. Every time I wonder if being single is a good thing, I remember that it will take someone of a peculiar disposition to find this a suitable way to spend Thanksgiving...

*I never realized that "'frige" doesn't have a "d" before the "g". Huh.

...and that's my life. Still trying to get caught up with sorting pictures and journaling older events (mostly for my own record).

Nevertheless, hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving! Such a wonderful holiday-- secular, non-denomination and mostly apolitical. And, turkey!

While there is no 'd' in Refrigerator, the shortened form does (oddly) have a 'd' in it. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the accepted shortened forms are 'fridge' and 'frig'. 'frige' is unknown.

</pedant> ;)

Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Yeah, "fridge", as in "Frigidaire", the popular manufacturer of refrigerators, not the refrigerator itself.

CRANBERRY SAUCE!
Kim loves it the most at Thanksgiving.
Hope the ticks leave!

i have a recipe roaming about somewhere for a cranberry and chickpea pie. It is awesome.

Here they're predicting freezing rain off and on for much of the week. OH GOODIE. The dog is not real thrilled either. I have to put a sweater on her every day now. She's got a really short coat, so gets cold easily.

She does like racing around in the snow once it snows. For about 10 minutes. then it's time to go in. it's cold.

With all the outdoor stuff I've done in California, I have never seen a tick here. Seriously! I have no explanation why. Never found one on my clothing, in me or even "reaching out to customers" on grass.

Wait, strike that. There was once a tick "event" when I was in Scouts. One of my friends got ticks embedded between his toes while on a camporee, and only noticed them after he took his shoes off to go swimming. I cannot vouch for his hygiene.

The east coast was a different story, you just came to expect them all over you when out there. I used to make a game of it by "directing" waiting ticks on blades of grass with my finger.

Ugh, ticks! My mother was bitten by a tick a few years ago and developed a pretty bad case of ehrlichiosis. She had to be hospitalized for it. We need more tickbirds here in America!
