Okay, so I can't count. Really the last Magdeburg post...

The complete Flickr set

My last day in Magdeburg was spent shopping (everything's closed on Sunday for the secular day-of-rest). My first stop was the game store I'd heard so much about: they have normal Warhammer stuff (games, books, miniatures), but also a large selection of LARP garb and hard ciders. Very nice: some of the leather pieces were very reasonably prices (I resisted the gauntleted gloves). I don't know a lot about ciders, but people were gushing over them at the con. The labels are fannishly cute.

Next: the big pet store. My sister (the dog-sister) loves German leather: leashes, collars, bridles, etc. When she went to Crufts a few years ago, that's what she brought back a bunch of. They had a nice selection, so I picked out a few nice pieces for her (I -so- owe her for all the dog advice, training and help she give me). This was a particularly complete store: they had a large aquarium/fish section, reptile and terrarium creatures and supplies (including some nasty-looking feeder-bugs). And of course, plenty of fru-fru pet supplies (fancy beds, houses, bowls, etc.) I got R0ndo a rain vest and a floaty-thing.

After this I raced back to the hotel, threw out a few running good-byes and dashed to the train station to get to the airport. Actually made it to the Leipzig-Halle Airport with enough time to spare that I could grab some food and peek into the gift store. I ws amused by the "Korn" brand liquor (not sure what kind it is, but apparently it's, "Rein und Mild".

The flight back to Frankfurt was uneventful (yay), but I was interested in a couple of things I saw on the ground (from the plane). One was a mound in the middle of a barren field. The mound was domed and nearly symmetrical, with a thin path that led across the plowed field to the road (quite a ways-- nearly a mile?). Was this an archeological site? Mysterious...

The other eye-catching sight were the huge, maze-like building (apartment?) complexes in the former DDR part of Germany.

The mysterious Nazca apartments!

The mound may just be a section that is unplowable for some reason. Burial mound is a possibility, large unplowable rock outcrop, etc. Another possibility is that its the old family cemetery for the farm, which would explain the path being maintained with no visible buildings as a destination.

Oh, a cemetery makes sense...especially with the path. Considering how flat the surrounding area is, unplowable mound doesn't fit, though something archeologically significant is a possibility given the area.

Than you for posting these. That gaming store looks fascinating! I'd love to see a few of those pics in high-res. :)

Which ones would you like the hires of? I can easily re-upload larger versions (I upload medium versions for time and to keep the uploader from crashing with huge uploads).

I'd be particularly interested in the ones related to the German gaming store. Flickr doesn't indicate any file names for any of them, but I can generalize to say the ones in the interior of the store look very interesting! I'd love to see the original size version! :)

Oh, cool-- thanks! It's kind of a generic booze...like a clear whisky.
