Saw it in 2-D (hate the glasses 3D requires): very nice. Yes, the story is complex and hard to follow, but if you just assume Good Owls vs Bad Owls + God-weapon, it's not hard to figure out. Elayne wants to read the books now (must try to borrow from Zor). Oh, and did I mention this film is gorgeous? Absolutely. Worth it for the eye candy alone.

I'm amused that the two animated films I've just seen are such opposites in complexity (on nearly all counts-- technical, story and character-wise). "Alpha and Omega" had an insipid, predictable plot with barely passable animation. Ironically, A&O probably nailed their target audience, while I'm still trying to figure out who, exactly, the GoG audience was supposed to be. Maybe it's the same one that Scott Pilgrim was targeting (ie, the practically non-existent animation-comic-nerd set).

I haven't seen A&O but I did see Roadside Romeo.. so can't comment directly... but I just saw the owls tonight and I gotta say I did enjoy it... I'd say the target for that might be say, kids age 8 to 14 ? There was too much cutesy-cutesy stuff with the baby owl to be for young adults, but too much violence for kids under 8... so yep, target a bit hard to define.. but maybe people will be a bit more enlightened when viewing this.. Apparently so far it's working ok, bringing in second place so far!

That's what I'd guess, too. But 8-14 year olds think they're too "old" for cartoons...or they'd rather see Hanna Montana or similar pre-teen fluff.

Oh, and Roadside Romeo has a -very- similar feel to A&O, in both character design, plot and random Bollywood-dance-scene...Not sure if either are related, tho'.
