Califur and FURRIES

I went to Califur to deliver a costume and see some folks. I hardly ever get to spend quality time with Dark Natasha or Terrie Smith: at a small con like Califur it's a lot easier to catch dinner with them (they're usually doing homework after their dealer-room stint).

The best thing about this con was that the hotel was sharing space with people attending the KROQ Weenie Roast. KROQ is best known for the whole "Rock of the Eighties" format and what I pretty much exclusively listened to at that time and into the '90's. Much to my surprise, the KROQ and furry fans alike seemed to get along in generally good humor. skorzy mentioned in his journal that some members the Stone Temple Pilots tried to crash the furry dance, but were kicked out (too bad: I would have loved to have seen that!).

Lol I heard that the whole situation was so very turned up on it's head with real life rock stars being kicked out of furry events. Suddenly we are the ones in charge Mwhahaha!

Unexpectedly, this was probably one of the oddest furcons I've been to. Just trying to get my head around furry security throwing out members of the Stone Temple Pilots from the furry dance...and the Weenie Roast fans were all pretty cool, too.

I wish I'd been more up on the Weenie Roast...it was like the Coachella Music Fest, but more KROQ-y. Would have been neat to spend days at the concert and then get back to the hotel and socialize with friends at the con!

Stone Temple Pilots is one of my most favorite bands! I met Scott Weiland backstage at a concert they did about 11 years ago, and he was totally cool to talk to!
