Hello! Vancouver isn't that big of a city, so I thought you'd be all over posting about the Olympics! You haven't really even mentioned it in the days leading up to the opening.
And yes, I -have- been wondering why -all- of the footage (non-NBC), both news and amateur, has been from about a mile away behind a chain link fence!
The reason I haven't mentioned it is because I really don't know how I feel about it.
I really don't want to cheer for the UK - I've never felt patriotic towards there at all.
I almost feel that I should be cheering for Canada, and I guess that I am. But because I'm not actually Canadian yet, I can't really take pride in Canada's achievements at the games - in terms of both medal count and because this is "Canada's Games".
It just doesn't feel right for me as a non-Canadian to wear the patriotic symbols yet. :(
So, I feel somewhat caught in the middle of things here - which makes me feel awkward about these games.
I guess you really are a man without a country! I'm not that all-about-the-US either: I am more interested in the spectacle of the show and how all the tourists affect the locale. Also, how Vancouver has been changed by having the Olympics there: more security? More shiney/spiffy? New attractions?
