You know what would make Twitter posts acceptable and possibly interesting? Relevance.

When someone Twitters a reply, it would help if Twitter posted the tweet they're replying -to-.

I'm only aggravated when I see posts like these:

"@booglewoogle Yeah, but that's what makes them really neat!#"
"@tangle Ooh! I want one too! #"
"@peter Yes, that was excellent. I hope the others are as good!#"

I hate those context-less posts! *Nnnrg!*

That varies now from client-to-client, but actually, the site does support that if you use the reply links (which leaves "in reply to" links on the tweet). I hate that it drops the context from some of them, most likely the ones that reply using a direct tweet or such.

What'd be useful is a syntax to be able to do replies from to guarantee @replies working, like @username-tweetid or something.

I actually started a twitter account, and now I don't even bother to check it since it seems so completely irrelevant.

...and irrelevant has a trunk. :P

I've found Twitter useful for following various professional blogs, such as the financial or scientific ones I read. As a "bulletin" board to post real-time messages on a subject. Very useful.

As a "social networking" tool, its absolutely a waste. There isn't anyone I know that I need a continuous stream of text messages from...

Actually, you shouldn't see those unless you are also following the person they are replying to. They changed it awhile back (much to the dismay of certainly crazy people who apparently love being spammed by disconnected comments) and it's made Twitter much easier to follow.

I think Lance is meaning the Twitter repost (LoudTwitter, Twittinesis, etc) to LiveJournal. My repost-to-LJ is filtered so people can opt out of reading my tweets. Until there's some kind of Twitter Archive, I'll keep reposting.

Oh yeah, that does get annoying. I used LoudTwitter for about two days and then turned it off. ^_^;

AMEN. I really can't stand those posts that are nothing more than piles and piles of ... uh... Tweets? that are comprised mostly of one-off thoughts and replies with no context. I've just started skipping those posts entirely because I can't follow them :( I have a Twitter account that I pretty much never use 'cuz I just don't have much to say in one or 2 sentences.

When I feed my tweets to LJ, I filter out the @posts for that reason.
