Forecast: Hot and...smokey?

I've never seen this icon on the NOAA site before:

So far they're very astute: I managed an early AM dogwalk (we all needed it) and it was already heating up, with lots of smoke in the air. The entire area has that "Golden Hour" appearance that cinematographers adore: warm, almost golden natural light.
Hiding indoors today. Hot, hothothot! Oddly, because of the low humidity, it doesn't feel as nasty as a few days ago when it was in the high 80's but with 50+% humidity. Still, this kind of heat just drains fluids and energy from you. Hydrate!
