Instead of fantastic images from the San Diego ComiCon, you get a photo essay about what I spent the last couple of weeks doing. Huzzah!

My partner-in-crime, Lynette, had planned a family outing to Southern California some time ago. I had begged her last summer to come out to help me with the Stygian mess that my workspace (and house and storage areas and...) had become. Major project after major project, with regular ones in-between to fill the available spaces, got me to the point where I just couldn't approach the disorganized morass those areas had become.

Here is a collage of most of the projects I worked on in that period. I know I've missed a few (oops-- yes, Cornell the werewolf from Castlevania), but this should give you an idea of what was accomplished during that two+ year period.
20072009

Lynette has an uncanny knack for organization. Oddly, this springs from a self-known tendency to create messes and hating to clean them up (it's complicated). I've seen her do it in the past and I never forgot (to her misfortune).

She agreed to tack on a few days to the end of her trip out here to help me out (I have such great friends). The only condition was that we also do some kind of fun-project so that she wasn't just playing char-woman for a week. Done!

I have been waiting for that day for AGES! Finally...

...she arrives!

...and she does NOT disappoint!

Even the storage areas are looking good:

I cannot tell you how happy I am! Workspace! Must maintain order!

The week that this transformation took place was sheer hell: Lynette showed up around 7:30am and left sometime around 8 or 9pm. During that time I was a blur of motion (moving at about half her speed) doing what I could, taking orders and generally not stopping (she's a good commander plus I knew she only had a few days to do this). Of course, the cooler summer weather we'd been enjoying in June did a disappearing act and we had more typical temps in the 100+'s. The dogs were both excited and confused: excited because of all the activity, confused because none of it seemed to involve them or anything they find interesting.

Some sound bites from the week:
"If I find ON MORE BAG of teeth, I'm going to scream," followed a few seconds later by a scream.
"No. Nononono. No more."
"What the heck is -this-?!?"
"It's dead. Throw it away. Now."

The dogs soon discovered the open floors and immediately proceeded to turn the area into a jaw-wrestling arena.

Despite missing SDCC and my buddies very much, I'm feeling very relaxed and laid-back. I have an interesting project to work on-- one that doesn't have a deadline. The nice thing about that is I have the time to try all the *great ideas* that I have going in to a project-- ideas that often get thrown out the window once crunch time looms (with hard-deadline projects).

As before, break a leg, guys! I'll be rooting for all of you!

Wheee! My boyfriend never lets my crap get quite that bad, since my studio space is also our apartment. It's still sometimes kind of scary though. I saw the living room floor for the first time, under its pile of boxes of things, when we finally cleaned a couple of days ago. They'd been there since we moved in, some of them!

That's the downside with living alone: when I have roommates, the place is significantly neater. Not spotless by any means, but I have enough consideration for others that I'm more likely to tidy up more. When it's just me, I have the bachelor's attitude of, "If it doesn't bother me, it's not there."

"No. Nononono. No more."

Hahaha, yet *another bag* of circus peanuts? Or was it perhaps gummy watermelon rings?

Funny you should mention the circus peanuts-- there was a box that had been sitting in the kitchen for months that Lynette forced me to open and either throw out or eat. The label said, "fruit and nut mix." I never bothered to check it out because, well, the label said what it was (I don't eat that kind of mix). I just figured they sent me the wrong thing (and I never got around to sending it back). Turns out it was mis-labeled and was, in fact, a lost box of "Ballpark Peanuts" I had been about to order more of, since I just finished the other box. Wow...that was a long, long story about an only mildly funny thing...but-- Circus Peanuts!

The Nononono was for several things: glue guns (I have about twenty-seven of them-- from mini's to an industrial, acetelyne-fired glue gun), teeth&claws, glue sticks (I have about a hundred pounds of them), and velcro.

HOW DID YOU LIVE LIKE THAT AAAAAHHHHHHH

It looks SO much nicer, wow. So much easier to manage! I'm... a housewife in the sense that I can't stand messes, and will follow the boys around the house picking up after them. RRRRRRRRRR MEN

I really, really wanna see more projects by you. You don't post enough costume work :D

I know what happened - you used the hot melt glue to stick the things to the ceiling!

I hadn't considered that, but I've always thought ceilings were underutilized...but I'd probably set the house on fire, especially using the fire-powered glue gun.

Wow, that's total organization! I like my organized mess- I consider the floor one low shelf. I like ruling over my kingdom of "stuff". Hyena- so the wallowing in filth applies.

I can empathize with your feelings about organized messes...but order has it's place (and it makes things so much more efficient, too).

I can't express how over-joyed I was to have everything in its place. It's like having your own costume supply store at your fingertips-- with everything easily found and floor-and-table spaces to spread out large patterns on!

As I said, *bliss*

Actually - people who get so disorganised that they need outside help to get it all in order - OFTEN are quite capable of working the same sort of magic, _on_other_people's_disorganisation_.

I bet that you have the very same "Magic touch".

I have a story about that, which I may send as an e-mail later.
