I was originally going to hit AX on Saturday since that's the day with the masquerade. Then I remembered: the 4th falls on a Saturday this year. Usually the dogs are boarded at a remote kennel while I attend a convention this weekend and are spared the noise of the holiday-- but since AX is local, I didn't bother. The 4th of July used to be a favorite holiday until I got a dog. Those of you with pets will understand completely.

I think I'm going to hit AX today (Friday) and skip Saturday-- I'll either go hide in the mountains or go for a drive with them. Or we'll sit on the couch and eat jerky treats while listening to LOUD ANIME.

SDCC and EF: I've decided I have to pass on both this year. My poor, faithful Mac just died (looks like the logic board) and I had been hoping that it could limp along until the end of the year (nope). The mew machine-- for editing and video work-- is going to cost a bundle and money is tight this year.

My main reason to hit San Diego was to see friends and help at the masquerade. Oh, and the Worlds Biggest Geek Toy Store (<--dealer's room). The dealer's room I can pass on-- I have agents and spies looking for werewolf comics and Interesting Stuff. I will certainly miss the masquerade and the fun of helping out (it's really a lot of fun if you find you have time to volunteer). Most of all I'll miss seeing several good friends. Fortunately, most of them are West Coast/BArea, so I will make a special effort to see them on the next trip up north. And Henry and Kim I can see today!

Eurofurence: gak. I hate missing this the most. I love Germany and I love this convention. All things being equal, this would be the one con I would not miss if I could help it. Still, not-attending is worth about half of the new machine. Sven-- you and your crew put on the best convention in the world and I know you'll do a great job this year again! I will have to find a way to bribe or plead or beg a copy of the puppet show from you: that event is the jewel of the weekend, above even raw sausage and sugar-Coke and hundreds of friendly, interesting fans!

Right now, my only possibly travel (besides the never-ending trips to the BArea) are a possible trip to Seattle in the fall with Tracy and -maybe- a trip to Mpls or Connersville. We'll see.

The SDCC masquerade is the premier masquerade in the US, by far. I'm not sure if Martin Jaquish is still running it, but under his hand this show was *perfect*: professional lighting, solid video and rehearsals that were of benefit to both the masquerade and the participant. Just amazing-- I'll miss helping out backstage as well! (<--what I do when I'm not participating.)

Yes, Martin is still in charge of it. He just called me the other day to see if Id be interested in being a Spot Operator for him. I had to decline as I am already working backstage and helping with the Green Room and moving people back and forth backstage. My gal pal out there is in charge of the backstage area, so Ill be with her.

This will be my first one, so I am VERY anxious to help out and to see everything there is to see.

That's great news that Martin is still running things-- he keeps dreaming of retiring but like the pink bunny, he just keeps going and going and going...

His shows are fantastic-- for both participants and audiences.
