The Battle at Devil's Canyon

Or at least, that's what it looked like! Roz needed more frog spawn and water plants, so she came over and we loaded the dogs and containers into the trusty herdmobile and drove to Devil's Canyon.

The name is deceiving: this is a wonderful creek-hopper with a lot of shade and only moderate amounts of poison oak. The canyon itself is impressive: carved out of sandstone, the edges rise 50-60 feet straight up and are carved into bizarre curves and caves covered with stone roses. The only downsides are the occasional horses and the housing development that's going up at the trailhead. They sure better allow egress once the gated community is finished!

calicougar will appreciate the change: they (whoever that is) really graded the area! The flood basin has been enlarged and deepened by a thirty feet! At the base of the hill there used to be a willow-lined canyon that a small creek ran through.

Now...


You'd never guess that they were at the goomers the day before...
