I try not to toot my own horn too much, but I'm so happy with how these costumes turned out that I wanted to share them with the group. I work with a cosplay group who does fantastic costumes: they're all very dedicated and fun to work with. This year our big set was based on the video game, OKAMI .

The game has a watercolor styling and beautiful designs. My job was to make the title character (whose actual name is Amaterasu) and one of the bosses, Ninetails (the demon fox). The biggest challenge was figuring out how to do the huge tails of the fox: they had to be transportable, manipulatable and we had to make -nine- of them!

These costumes utilize tricks from Japanese bunraku puppet theater, Noh theater and some desperate innovation. I wanted the characters to be four-legged and they had to move and perform as well (so the leg extensions had to be strong). I also wanted to recreate the thin legs of the fox demon, so I used fake legs and feet for the rear limbs and thin extensions for the front legs. The tails utilize huge balloons to maintain their shape. Amaterasu's head has a moving jaw that I'll try to get a video of-- it's really cute!

Here's a cute pic of Amaterasu and Sakuya!

[EDIT: OOPS! Accidentally posted this to my journal instead of the fursuit list...my bad!]
