Heya! I guess it's official now, so I can self-pimp that Steve ([livejournal.com profile] kvogel and I are the Guests of Honor at Eurofurence 13!

I'm pretty jazzed about this...must...be...worthy...

So if you happen to find yourself in Suhl at the beginning of September, stop by and say hello! Thank goodness Steve's going, too: he's a seasoned traveller, familiar with Germany and has unpleasant experience peeling me out of costumes. Plus, he's a whole set of cool stuff in and of himself: Albedo, the Albedo RPG, Civil War re-inactment, custom scale model aircraft, hurting himself, dogs-- you name it!

Must do research on getting large boxes from point A to point waytheheckoutthere. International airline security, here we come!

Ahhh...

OK, enough strugling through German. My German is terrible, in case you didn't figure that out from that broken text above. Slowly learning to make it better. :>

I will be shipping Dar'Rushk to Suhl, and will be using either Fedex or DHL for the transport. Last year, I shipped a costume via Deutsche Post and the USPS, and had no problems with either. You will need cash to post things from from Germany, though; few places take credit cards.

I'm planning on sending the package straight to the hotel, to arrive around 1 week before I do, since that's when the earliest of the staff start to arrive. I'm hoping I can arrange for Fedex or DHL to pick up at the hotel, and I don't have to manage to get the huge boxes out to the DHL office once there. (I'm leaning towards DHL, since they are a German-based company, with close ties to Deutsche Post, and the cost is about the same with either.) When I have spoken to Fedex, they claim customs aren't a problem. Going with DP/USPS, there was almost zero issue with customs, in fact, so I don't worry TOO much.

Had no problems bringing the (smaller) costumes out via airlines in years past either (last year, I brough it out via air and shipped it back before exploring the country). I was always more worries about customs on our side of the pond than in Europe, in fact. :>

You know... Just between you, myself, and Frysco, we may be getting close to the point where it would be cheaper to rent an air container from a freight consolodator. If you're interested, I can look into what costs are involved in that.

Freight consolidator might be an interesting way to go-- let me know what you find out. They'd deliver the container to the hotel, then pick it up when the con's over?
