We started calling at 9AM...constant busy signal until 11:30. Get a human on the line just to discover that ALL THE HOTELS ARE SOLD OUT already. Some individual days open, but nothing with three days in a row. Online is worse.

SDCC sold out in less than three hours? Suckage.

VERY Suck

I was doing the site AND the phone at the same time trying to book Friday to Sunday. It took me over an hour but I managed to score a room at the Holiday Inn on the Bay. Not my favorite hotel, but not a bad place either. I was there in '04 and the only problem was a constant issue with the keycards that ended up being the scanner battery.

A suggestion...if there is a hotel you want, call them directly and ask to be put on their wait list. Do this at several different hotels so your options are open. I did this and I'm #3 in line at one of them.

The other option? Just keep checking the website. People will shift about, especially as people cancel closer to the convention or people get off of the wait lists for the Big Hotels (Marriott/Omni/etc). I looked one moment and there was no openings, and then on a whim I looked and the HI was open. It was closed off after I booked.

Totally unrelated...I still have that offer for you on the 'feline' thing that might be interesting for you :D

We're on the Travel Planner "wait list", but I'll take your advice and call hotels directly. Rats.

And the HI on the Bay was one of the hotels we were trying to get! Rawr!

Oh Lance, I just tried it too, and there's practically nothing! I put down the 28th at the Sheraton Hotel and Marina, because that was all there was left. I guess you and I have to keep trying? Mich and I REALLY want to go this year, so here's to hoping.

Are you guys driving down?

It's the plan so far...I mean, Mich isn't 100% sure she can go, so getting the hotel was going to be our back-up plan. ::hates people right now except for friends including you::

Just a quick note to say I'm still trying to get that email out to you, but my system has been crashing insanely and the job is being demanding and we've been fighting to do data recovery from R.'s basically dead photo drive - never a dull moment.

Say "hi" to the furry brat. :p

*whew*! I thought you were either really mad or the wound had Quasi-modo'd on you and you were -furious-! Or that you were just too busy dealing with post ALA drama and passports.

Will beat furry brat with spiked stick for you...

I have no idea what to suggest they do, but the hotel situation at ComicCon is getting ridiculous. I remember last year trying to book a room, watching hotels fill up and disappear before I could even get my information typed in to reserve ... Fortunately this year someone else handled the hotel room, but I feel for ya.

Wowsers...how many other conventions can brag about filling a whole city and not just their hotel?

How many other conventions turn people away at the door because they let too many people in and the fire marshal said 'stop'? That happened last year on Saturday.

Man, suck. Besides you, some other folks I know have been shutout as well.

I'll just be persistant and diligent: got a room last year by checking in constantly. And yeah-- the comment about a comic con that actually sells out-- amazing!

So, according to legend the first ComicCon had something like 300 people in attendance?

Back in the 70's, when dinosaurs roamed the convention halls...

These days anybody who isn't doing manga-style work is a dinosaur, so the joke maybe isn't so good.

True, but he's much less likely to stalk and chase down a lesser dinosaur for dinner.

Only since his heart surgery, and even though he's mellowed, I'm still waiting for one last chorus of "Dead Gophers for Everyone!"

Damn! Talk about popular....I had a bad feeling that was going to happen.

Thankfully, I have a few friends down in San Diego I can utilize as a place to stay and visit.

Undoubtedly some of the rooms will free up as people cancel their plans. If nothing else, you can jump on one of the other hotel complexes in the area.
