One other reason I was house-sitting was to try her new mattress: she shelled out for a "Tempur-Pedic" matress and yeah-- they're that good. Like sleeping on warm mud: it felt "thick". I'd move and slowly my limb would settle into the foam. Further movement entailed moving that limb out of the slight hollow it had formed, but then it would settle again. Any position seemed comfortable: back, side, falling-victim-position. I'm sorely tempted!

It's funny: now Elayne has a waiting list of house/cat-sitters who also want to try that mattress. It's one thing to lay on one for a few minutes in a store, but the proof is in the pudding. Sleeping on a Tempur-Pedic is as wonderful as advertised!

Now the only other type of bed I'd like to try is one I read about in a Larry Niven story: a bed filled with mercury...though I doubt -that- will ever happen!

If you can't afford an actual Tempur-pedic mattress, there are pads you can buy, about 2-3 inches thick, that can be placed on top of a regular mattress. My mom has a Tempur-pedic and yes, it is wonderful.

Tempur-Pedic is a brand of "memory foam". We have a 2" high-grade memory foam pad on top of our Futon arrangement, and it's quite heavenly. :)

You can also get non-Tempur-Pedic brand memory foam matresses 12 inches thick at Sam's Club and Costco, when they have them in stock. My mother picked up a queen sized one for under $500 which is a bargain compared to Tempur-Pedic.

For me, the memory foam holds body heat too well. I ended up with a non-Select Comfort brand adjustable air matress. I really like it.

Interestingly, people really DO have a love it or hate it opinion of that... and coincidentally, another person who LOVES the bed but hates the pillow, gave me their $125 pillow 8>

AND... in answer to your Firefox question (coincidentally I use 1.5 also!).. here is what ya wrote... "Regarding Firefox (ver. 1.5.0.7), have you noticed a glitch with it where the cursor clear across the screen in a random kind of way and for no reason? Or is it my mouse...?"

I can't quite make out the grammar on that, buddy.... um, do you mean the cursor 'jumps' clear across the screen, or, highlights everything across the screen, or.....?

If either, I have seen that as a mouse issue several times, and haven't seen it happen with my Firefox.. sorry... eeeps!

Re: Dux friend-- maybe there's a psychosomatic-thing going on where price=more comfort in their head. I can barely picture spending Tempur-pedic prices for a mattress-- but I *luv* sleep, so @ 1/3 life spent there the price sounds almost reasonable (though I'd probably cheap out for the knock-off brand). But a Dux? My eyes pop'd out when I saw what they were asking!!

Re: mouse/cursor-- sorry for the word-drop. The line should have read: "...noticed a glitch with Firefox where the cursor hops/jumps clear across the screen in a random...". You're probably right: I need a new mouse. I would move it an inch and suddenly find the cursor ten inches away, clear across the screen.

heh... Think I have to agree with you that the psychosomatic element might be there... Money is no object for this person, and they may have indeed convinced themselves of your very claim. *egads at $10,000+ for beds!*

and good lux dux with your louse mouse! ^V^
