Sekrit LAConIV masquerade entry!

Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, featuring appearances by Cheese and Blake Superior!

Fosters

I made Blake Superior (a Foster's Home villain of sorts) and Eduardo, the purple, potato-eating monster. Wayne-sama made incredible puppet-versions of Wilt and Coco (his Coco is Fabulous!), plus a stand-in Bloo and Cheese. Mich and Kim made Bloo and Cheese and Mac and Richie Wildebrat and Lydia made Frankie. Henry did a fantastic job on the soundtrack!

The last of the Big Three was the 64th World Science Fiction Convention in Los Angeles. LAcon IV was *huge*. (More on the con itself later...) Mich and Kim *reeeeealy* wanted to pull off a "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends" group and LAcon seemed the perfect venue for this. Perfect for me, too-- Eduardo is a logistical nightmare.

I'll go into construction stories later...but for now I'll say that I had a ton-O-fun doing this costume set. We made a lot of little kids *very* happy, especially when we put in an appearance at the kid's programming room (which was amazing and I'll go into in another post). They adored us!

Here's a much better picture of the group (linked because everyone's already seen this one)

Here are pics of Blake Superior, with Mich as Richie:

I definitely over-committed this year: three (technically five) different costumes for three major masquerades (CostumeCon, AX and Worldcon). I have one major costume to finish up and then it's time for a long rest.

Fosters.....

You are my hero now, you know that?

Woo! Thank you!

[identity profile] pikacello.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I miss you and your undies already! =)

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
I just unpacked Blake's panties and thought of you guys! Did you get a chance to listen to Scarlet Pimpernel on the way home?

[identity profile] hoshikaji.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep!!! You were right when you said that version of the OST is not the best, but that song about why God made man is AWESOME! =)

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That song even has costuming references!

Here are some shots from that scene:

Wow.

Those are awesome!

Okay, that totally ROCKS!!!!!

"I like chocolate milk!"

I haven't been able to get into the Foster's show, but I appreciate some of the character designs. Your edwardo costume looks really cool.

[identity profile] waynekaa.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Lance is the most uber best of the group like usual!
We certainly keep you busy!
oh I've been talking to the rest of the crew and if you want to sack the burnt croissant and use it to make other stuff, feel free. Or we can talk more about that in Emails.

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Cool...but just what would I make out of a burnt croissant?!? Battle armor?

[identity profile] sk-1.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you let a burnt croissant go stale, I hear they make great doorstops. :)

I can't say anything about those creations that hasn't already been said, so I'll just stand back and admire.

Hope the rest of life is treating you just as well, pal. And I also hope to catch up with you again one of these days.

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Except that this croissant is nearly 8' tall...Would stop a pretty big door.

[identity profile] okojosan.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's awesome! Yay, Foster's!

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
I thought you'd like it!

[identity profile] awelkin.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Very nice. This looks like a project that was a lot of work, but had a very fun result.

Aiee!!! So COOL! OMG! You are once again, the MASTAH!!!!

btw... I did a Bloo commission for AX ^_^

http://sewinggoddess.livejournal.com/129969.html

But I think he totally would have been out of scale for your group, lol. Mine was close to 6ft tall.

[identity profile] waynekaa.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, so that's where that costume came from.
I heard he was planning to enter a masquerade.

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Your Bloo was fun: like a crazy, bouncing slinky! And, "Aieee!" because that would mean Eduardo would have to be over 12' tall! He's already a handfull at a little over 6' (w/o horns).

[identity profile] wyoon.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
HA! :) That was fantastic! Thanks for posting it.

[identity profile] tsukinobara.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
@.@ *is too spellbound*

[identity profile] nicodemusrat.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, nice! Your work at capturing shapes is great; you're very good at modeling characters. Sweet.

[identity profile] spotweld.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Most approprite moment for "Squeeee" I have seen to date.

[identity profile] farraptor.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Love em'! Now I'm wishing I could have forced some time in there to get down to Anaheim and enjoy the convention. Glad it was a success...sounds like it was humungo for sure. Glad you had a good time, and most especially glad that you made the day of quite a few little kids. That always makes puts a sun on a cloudy day.

Your work is superb; I look forward to seeing your newest creations.

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
The kids were a huge bonus: usually my stuff is too scary for them to want to get close. Except for those rare kids who -like- scary things (love 'em!).

yours?

[identity profile] c-eagle.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
OMG the versatility!!

[identity profile] spunkywulf.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Your Eduardo is to die for. He came out utterly adorable and those big staring eyes just do it! LOVE your stuff, and I'm astounded at how easily you can switch up your styles!

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm all for trying new styles...that's why I never tried to make a profession out of costume-making: most people would just want clones of Shen or the werewolf (not that more werewolves is a bad thing) and I wouldn't be able to try new stuff. I like new stuff. And I can still always do a werewolf if I want to!

[identity profile] penh.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy crapburgers! Those are utterly and inarguably the awesomest things seen by mankind this month. Eduardo is especially amazing. Fantastic work! Wish I coulda seen them live and in person.

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone got the video up! It's on Youtube:

It's awsome to be considered the awesomest thing in a month by you! Thanks!

wowzers! Eduardo is amazing. I have to get sewing again!
