In order to escape the heat today Zor, Rondo and I fled to Venice and the cooler ocean temps. The temperature differential between here in the Valley and Venice was about 30 degrees: 107f here and about 77f at the beach. The difference is even greater for Roz: probably 40+ degrees! And we're only talking about a physical difference of about 10 miles!

There were crowds (and no parking) , but it was MUCH cooler. And the grass was oddly vacant (good for us, tho'). New dog regulations meant that I had to keep Rondo to the bike paths and off the crowded boardwalk (which Rondo probably appreciated).

This was Rondo's first time at the beach (AFAIK) . He was a little anxious about the crowds and vexed that he was on-leash the whole time, but seemed to enjoyed the passing spectacle. Here's Rondo at famous Muscle Beach.

We stopped for lunch/snax and I got der hund a plotz of roast beef as a treat (for being good):

We had to wait while Roz and Scott explored the fishing pier (no dogs allowed). Rondo was a keen observer of the parade of humanity passing by...
Rondowatches

There was a WTF-piece of art on the way to the beach. I mean-- what IS this thing? It looks like a butt being prepared for an enema or hamster.
wtfart

Here's proof that any piece of crappy art can be improved with the inclusion of a cute dog.

Tho' even Rondo wanted to get away from it...

Rondo slept like a little kid on the way back-- completely out. And the Valley was still broiling on our return. So a good excursion all-told (especially if the NastyDog I ate doesn't kill me).

I'm always a pushover for beach pictures but the first thing that caught my attention was the Icon of yours. I thought the tongue was an exaggeration but after looking at Rondo's pictures...nope, dead on. *laughs* Cool post.

E-gad!

Probably the most accurate description possible for this... thing. If it was a Maplethorpe (sp?), I'd probably tell you that you're likely 110% right :D

This sculpture is more deserving of the "WTF" label than any I've seen before. But it's nice that it was in an out-of-the-way nook, where we could take pics! Anyone visiting Scott R. should visit this thing!

Rondo seems like such a happy, fun dog. I hope I get to meet him someday :)

ROFL...Just stopping by, saw this post, and had to comment...There's a similar WTF statue at the Oslo trainstation; my 5 year old (when he was 4) told me it's a "wee wee making poopie balls", and I agree with him:
