There was an article in the Times about the display of animatronic creatures on display at the Academy of Motion Pictures A&S. Looks like a good show: all kinds of creatures from the last twenty years or so on display. Some are in perfect condition, others are "skinned" to show off the mechanics inside. I think the admission may be free or a small "donation" at the door. If you're in town, take a look!

Here's the site:

EDIT:
For you fans of the Movie "Labyrinth", there's going to be a screening with props and discussions with members of the Henson Company:

That would totally rock to go see. Unfortunately Beverly Hills is more than a little drive away. :) To tell us about it when you go. :)

When are they going to put in that bullet train so I can get to LA in just a couple of hours? Grrr!

Oh, I'm so jealous! Animatronics and movie creatures are something I've been interested in since I was a kid. I even wanted to design them at one time... and then I realized I'm not technology-inclined (meaning I can't figure out my PC half the time, much less anything more complicated). If I wasn't stuck in the Mid-South, I'd be over there in an instant. Esepcially now that they're airing Labyrinth, one of my favorite movies of all time.

Hi Furtech! It's Elena (the Burmecian Soldier fursuiter; friend of [livejournal.com profile] hoshikage) from the AX Masquerade. Just wanted to say hi, and let you know that you have been one of the fursuiters that I look up to for inspiration. [livejournal.com profile] hoshikage told me that you had sent your congratulations to me after I won Best Novice Craftsmanship, and I just wanted to thank you SO much for that! =D It was really an honor to hear that. Hope you don't mind me lj-friending you! =D Take care!

Hi, back at you! I'm sorry I didn't have the opportunity to congratulate you to your face (the only times I saw you were in costume), but Congratulations on the win! Fantastic job on your character and a great skit! I was fortunate enough to see your routine backstage and enjoyed the performance (always hard when covered with inches of foam and fur!).

Aww, thank you! I was hoping to come out of there with at least an honorable mention for individual presentation that I worked really hard on, but oh well... Guess they don't know how hard it is to keep to scripted movement in a fursuit? ::laughs:: Oh well, it was fun regardless, and I am quite ecstatic with the award I did receive. Your Yakitate skit was great as well! Hope to meet up with you soon (face-to-face of course! Or, if the situation calls, fur-to-fur). I'll continue to watch your LJ. You're on my friends list!
