Nuts for Mutts

The highlight of the weekend was taking der hunds to the "Nutx for Mutts" event across the Valley. martes and auryanne (plus Banjo & Rondo) piled into the dogmobile and drove over to Pierce College (home of the Toros, apparently).

Mutts are the stars of this show: I'm not sure if this is actually a sanctioned mixed-breed dog show (I doubt it, with categories like, "Best Kisser" and "Fastest Eater"). Tonnes of neat dogs: it's fun trying to guess what mix certain dogs are.

Two interesting bits from this show: the dealer who had all the dog-treats at 4-legged nose level who good-naturedly said that they expect and accept a lot of "shoplifting"; the show (run by "New Leash on Life Animal Rescue") is too libbie for me: they had NO MEAT at the people-food stalls! Tofu-this and Garden burger that! The guy selling garlic fries lamented not being able to sell sausages and burgers. So did I! What up with that?!?

Rondo finally got fitted for a fashion accessory (Doggles). Rondo says, "Hur! Boss-cool, eh?"

Of course they have pink-- definitely in the small sizes; not so sure in the bigger sizes. The lavender is a bit "summery" but that's what they had for the fitting sizes. I almost got him the black-with-orange-flames pair, but I really wanted a yellow pair so I waited (Rondo's color theme-- leashes, collar, etc. is yellow, just as Frieda's was princess-pink).

What's the width on the elastic piece of the goggles? 1"?

Elastic was 1/2", I think. Could be bigger on the large/XL sizes.

Now that I know his size, I can actually order a pair: they're for dogs who like to stick their heads out car windows. I'm also trying to accustom him to wearing costumes and other annoying accessories. We'll work him into a monster movie at -some- point as the larval form of some creature...

Doggles are one of my favorite things ever. I thought I had invented the concept in my head awhile back, but I'm so glad they actually exist and that people (or dogs, rather) use them!

I love good tofu...but not when they pervert it by trying to make it taste like "meat". BTW, "good tofu" = not bought at grocery store.

Love the "doggles", he just looks so... dashingly goofy in them :) And YEAH on the 2-D dog!!! Is that a russian wolfhound? I can't remember what they're called. I saw one in Boston Commons years ago and it freaked me out because it looked like it would disappear out of the three dimensional plane when it turned around to face me.

"Dashingly goofy"-- that would describe Rondo is two words! The 2-D dog is indeed a Borzoi. They're like those huge fish who turn into lines when they face you. You should see one run: they're magnificent!
