NisseiWeek

Yesterday I went to Nissei Week to check out the festivities and return a tape. This gets bigger every year: lots of booths, including several anime-merchandise booths. There are a variety of activities over the week, including demonstrations of martial arts, music and dance, anime (drawing, showing, cosplay) and a parade. This is also were the Tofu Festival was-- mostly Asian food booths with decent fare that was -very- cheap (it's a fundraiser, so the food was donated and sold for cheap!). I had a tofu-burrito that was -excellent- (imagine my surprise)! At this rate, I could actually picture myself going veggie in the future (probably not, but at least it's within the realm of believability).

Some pics of the event (all about 130K, with the one exception):

The return of Nissei Week's mascot, Aki Akita!

The Tofu Fest's mascot: TOFUZILLA!

The contestants from the Cosplay Contest in the Grand Parade

Here's a larger version of the above pic of the cosplayers if you want to try and ID anyone...(about 1.3meg)

There was a Bleach Group, but I still doubt that anyone would have understood Komamura...

Kuro-neko!

About midway through the parade there was a near riot: apparently a J-Rock band was in the parade and hundreds and hundreds of fans mobbed the car they were riding. Eventually the police diverted the float off the parade, since the fans were mobbing the car even with a circle of security and police! Has anyone heard of "KAT-TUN"??? Here's the best shot of their heads that I managed

Here's a picture of one of the Taiko groups in the parade (know 'em, Mich?)

Some of the many festival dancers...I miss Obon!

An Akita club had dogs in the parade, including this very unusual Gray-brindled akita!

The only thing cuter than a tired puppy...

They all had good looks and temperaments: the kind of Akitas that make people-who-shouldn't-own-them go out to their nearest puppymill and buy a dog they shouldn't (I've met more undersocialized, poorly bred and vicious Akitas than nice ones...). Still, these were really nice dogs!
