Earlier this year while looking for my prodigal husky, I came across this snake, curled up in a hole. It was such an odd color I ran back for my camera to snap a shot of it. Any ideas?

Might be a corn snake, do we have them out here?

Could be a gopher snake too, I suppose, but I'm not really familiar with them...

Coachwhip, Western subspecies

Or it could be a pink rattler.

*Bing-bing-bing!*

I think coachwhip is the answer! The color of the snake in your reference picture is correct... and it definitely wasn't a rattler (at least the tail tip didn't have rattles at all).

Thanks!

(to you, too, O!)
