furtechThere are a number of different foams cited as being used in costume construction, but it's hard to describe them. This should help: a photo of four different types of foam (different thicknesses of two of them).
Top to bottom
L-200 aka "evac foam" / closed-cell (no holes) 3/4" thickness, white
Mattress foam, low resiliency / open-cell (holes) 1" thickness, beige
"Scott Foam" aka reticulated foam / open-cell (big holes) 1" thickness, black
Mattress foam, high resiliency / open cell (holes) 1" thickness, beige
L-200 2" (white)
Scott foam 2" (black)
