Considering how few venues there are to wear a costume, I jump at the chance to attend events were I won't be considered eccentric for wearing one. And here is the perfect event! The release of the new Harry Potter book! A big fan of the books and movies, I was ready with scarves and garb (raided from the medieval project's pile of costumes). I briefly (very briefly) considered wearing a wolf or dog head (probably Baron or one of the wolves from the medieval cast), but decided that it was taking enough courage (that stage fright thing) to just wear basic garb (cool boots, riding cloak and ubiquitous cloak). There were three of us: one Slytherin, one Ravenclaw and a Griffendor (me).

The event was a lot of fun-- everyone was excited and anticipating the new book in their hands. The crowd was large but relaxed and friendly. We got good props for our scarves-- which were made by a very good friend on a knitting machine she hadn't used in a decade (good thing she didn't throw it out!).

The evening was the most fun I'd had in a long time: Dinner at Todai (huge, all-you-can-eat sushi/etc. restaurant), a dogwalk, sorting out costumes and then the trek over to the bookstore!

...at least the ones we're willing to show!

The bookstore had a nice courtyard to hang out in
The event

My favorite costume: someone came as a Wompin' Willow! Complete with teeny blue car!

Sounds like a grand ol' time!

We ALMOST had a Padfoot come with us, but I thought he didn't want to go because he had to get up at 6am the next morning, and he thought we were cancelling the whole trip to Borders. A week before I'd given up trying to finish retrofitting "Prongs" and never got around to picking up the rat that would've been known as "Wormtail", so a lone "Padfoot" would've been the only critter.

So, did you do any dressing up? I'm sorry I wimped out on wearing a mask: the bookstore would have been the perfect venue with the cool weather and courtyard!

I wore some vaguely ren-fair garb. I loaned my Wolverhampton Wanderers scarf (black and gold striped) to Malin. He did get poked fun at for being a Hufflepuff. He does fancy himself more of a Ravenclaw.
Here is a recap of Friday's festivities.

I finished the book Sunday evening. yay me :)

We went to the Dutton's in Brentwood. Cool indie book chain: they've got a terrific used book store in North Hollywood.
