Finally!

I get to make a post that takes full advantage of my wonderful [livejournal.com profile] dragonsmirk-created Logo!

Last night I got to see "The Producers"! Jordan, Larry and Fuzzy (and myself) crawled into Hollywood ("H8LAFWY") and the Pantages theater (wonderfully restored by Dizney). This show is a lot of fun whether or not you've seen the original Mel Brooks film. The songs are catchy, the tone light and fluffy (but with a solid story). Jason Alexander was great as Max Bialystock ("The first producer to do summer stock in the winter!"). I had no idea how rich his musical theater background was: he was in the original productions of "Merrily We Roll Along" (Sondheim classic) and "The Rink"! Amazing! And I already knew Martin Short could sing ("The Goodbye Girl"), and he brought a whole, new, spazzy dimension to Leo Bloom! Highly recommended if it comes your way!

And speaking of which, Happy Chanuka!

Didn't they do a live version already with John Cussack in it?
I'm a big fan of the original. I can't picture anyone other than Dick Shaw doing the part of LSD and Mr.Belvedere as the Director. :)
Who plays those parts in the new play, by the way? (and Karmon Ghia)

Cool- I've yet to see "The Producers", movie or Broadway, but hope to sometime. I did see "The Making of The Producers" with Mel Brooks, and it looked like a lot of fun. I'd /really/ like to see the New York version, simply because Mathew Broderick is in it /\_/\...
