FurFright: The Actual Convention!

Once we finished picking apples, we returned to the convention. Saturday is the big day of the con and I was just in time to catch the first fursuit parade.

Full Flicker Set, with annotations, here!

As usual these days, there were a LOT of very nice costumes. Costume building has progressed in leaps and bounds over the years and furry conventions are finally being recognized for their creativity and fun.

Considering this con had a membership of only a K, there were a LOT of costumes out there. I love the range of styles, too: from the totally artsy to the absolutely fun. And a few oddballs in between, like the paper cup costume. .

My favorite suit of the con: a German Shepherd Dog that was this person's first costume attempt. Be afraid: she did a *fantastic* job on the head. Lots of expression and technically a nice piece of work. Have no idea who she is, though.

The dealer's room was pretty lively: lots of stuff to see and buy. I was very tempted by the Mango Islands black fox plush , but I put myself on a strict program of, "no new neat stuff until I clean-up/get rid of old stuff". A highlight of the con was having dinner with Louvelex and Shannon and their friends/SO's. I've always admired the colors and designs of the Mango Island Costumes. and it was nice being able to sit down and talk with them for an evening.

Neat suits I saw later the day: several new Mango Island costumes (speaking of); a nice MLP Pinky Pie ; cute Rio-styled Green Parrot ; a cute Hyena .

On Saturday night, Tracy and I asked Spotwield for a restaurant recommendation and he gave us Eli Cannon's place. Long wait for a table (Saturday night), but worth it! Amazing collection of sandwiches, fries and wings! Also, a ton of bheer.

We got back to the con to find police and EMT's in the lobby. Never a good sign at a con (or anytime, for that matter). Some poor guy in the gamers room had some medical issues and they called the EMT's to check him out.

The fellow that the EMTs were there for had some chronic issues and had a flare up. so they basically were there to do some immediate care and determine if they should take him in or he could go see primary care physician on Monday. They were in the game room for about a half hour before determining he was probably okay to stay. I did see him walking around next day and he was feeling much better.

Glad to hear he's all right. Cons are so hard on regular people that I'm not surprised those with existing conditions are at risk. Good thing he has friends who notice and, whether or not he wants it, call the EMT's if they think it is warranted.

Well, a collaboration with Katmomma and Sugarpoultry. :3

Neat! Thanks for the link. Looking at her gallery, her 2D stuff is *wonderful*! No wonder she was able to do such a great job on her first head: from her art she clearly knows how instill character in a piece and, most of all, she knows that you keep working at something until it looks -right-.

Thanks for the nice big Flikr set!... Love the german shepherd and of course, the parrot :D

Parrot was for Yooouuuuu! Knew you'd like him!

Do I spy someone dressed as 'Cap Wolf', from the Captain America story where he turns into a werewolf? That's pretty cool -- and doubly appropriate, given the time of year and the presence of the Captain America film this year!

slightly better pic of him: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/6693654/
His name is Frisky - cool fella from New York.

That's what I thought, too! That series is the only Captain America I ever bought and one of my favorite comics of all time! The recent movie would have been all the better if it had hoards of German werewolves in it...!

Here's another shot of him, along with the War Dog Memorial folks!

The MLP Pinkie Pie was part of the group that SophieCabra did for DragonCon. She built Rainbow Dash and AppleJack for AnthroCon, and took on four more and had six running around Atlanta, 5 of the "Mane 6" plus Big Mcintosh:

She built the other four suits in like a month. Not bad, considering two of them went for pretty tidy sums on eBay recently.

A brief clip from the D*C parade: (should skip ahead to 03:15)

I'm not into MLP (not against it; just neutral) but I admit that I really admire her work on that costume set. Those are not easy characters to adapt and I think she nailed them.

I totally agree with you on how well she adapted them!

And thanks for the links, Jimmy! I need to drag you along to ID all the suiters!
