...especially for Los Angeles. We're used to odd weather this year, but snow?!?

Naw-- just some Hollywood magic. Roz and I were heading to dinner when we came across this shoot.

Here are the rest of the pictures.

Even without asking, it's easy to see this is a fairly big budget film: the snow alone is $$ (it's all flock and white tarp), but those lights, cranes and all the other equipment hints at a budget in the mid-eight digits, at least. No television show has that kind of budget.

If you observe further, you can get other clues: the filming angles are clear from what is and what is-not flocked/snowed. Also, the story takes place in Tennessee: license plates (kudos to Roz for noticing that). Plus, rude PA's and grumbling about papparazzi (you don't get that with most tv or indie productions).

Locals are often annoyed at the inconvenience that shoots sometimes create, but I love 'em. A lot of people don't know how interconnected the film business is with all of Los Angeles. Plus, it's *fun*. I once saw an episode of CSI: NY that shot scenes at a place I hike frequently in the San Fernando Valley. It's cool.

That's really cool :D I wonder how they clean it all up after.

Snow in TN? lol! It happens sometimes but it's fairly rare, at least in the part I'm familiar with. Also, someone needs to tell them that in winter the trees don't have leaves. :D

I'm guessing that was not along the hiking trail... ;D

Encino? Reseda? Cucamonga?... Nice!

Had me going for a moment there... I once walked in on a scene they were filming for TOP GUN while I was working on the base at NTC (the former Naval Training Center), and they were filming the scene with the car (Kelly driving in the movie, but probably a stunt double that I saw), where they go through the gate. (Actually at NTC and not Mira Mar.)

I dunno, but it was pristine a week later! Probably big vacuum cleaners and rakes and brooms. They may even recycle the snow.

Hahaha! I totally missed the leaves! Remember, the people doing this are probably local natives, and the only trees they see with snow (or flock, for that matter) are pine trees! Bwa!

Maybe it takes place in the mountains...

That's great! Too bad you didn't make it into the background of the shot.

There's a great story about someone doing that from the film, "Earthquake" (that disaster film of 1974): they were shooting a huge "falling-rubble" scene outside one of the office towers at Universal Studios and a woman walks out of the building totally unaware of the filming going on. While everyone else is stumbling and falling, she just walks by looking confused.

LOL! From what I've seen of actual earthquake footage, that's actually a valid response. A lot of people just look very confused while it's going on. :)
