Thanks for the comments on Winston. Java did a knockout job and was great to work with. I was thrilled with how well the vest and (particularly) the hat worked with the character. I bought them on spec before receiving the suit, so I was nervous how it would work.
The character name Winston came from the fly-rod company that makes the rods I use R.L. Winston (which is actually the characters full name). He's supposed to be kind of aloof/uppity, which I'm still figuring out how to translate to performance.
Very good note about the detective deal, which I hadn't though about yet. The kind of LA Confidential/old Bogart movies style would work well with the character. Perhaps I'll have to pick up a trenchcoat for him. ;)
