Homophobia reaches a new low...

This story happened months ago, but I came across it on a blog by the author of "One Nation, Under Dog"-- an excellent book on how crazy the pet dog industry and its related concerns have become. Did you know, for instance, that the largest group of people running puppy mills are the Amish? (Of course, I also didn't know that Mennonites are one of the larger smugglers of Marijuana over the US border...but I digress.)

But this is about dogs. And homosexuality. And extreme stupidity*.

Gay Dog' Refused Entry To Australian Restaurant

*Even though this happened in Australia, I can easily picture it happening in the US...

That is really bizarre. o_O

Yes, "bizarre" is the word. I'm kind of unclear on how the sexual orientation(?) of a companion animal is relevant to allowing its owner service at a place of business...

That sounds like a blog I'd enjoy.

AND here we have proof that there are indeed humans so far less intelligent than the dumbest companion animal that they put our supposedly "intelligent" species to shame.

"One Nation, Under Dog" -- I suppose I will have to read it some day. The most recent (really good) books I have read on the subject of dogs are Ted Kerasote's "Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog" and Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson's "Dogs Never Lie About Love: Reflections on the Emotional World of Dogs".

"One Nation, Under Dog" is a pretty neat book. The author was on the Bob Edwards show and caught my ear. I'll check out the books you mention, though they sound like the kind of books that make dog owners all-tearful and blubbery.

Wow. A new low.
