Tonight was Mythbusters season opener-- Wow!

A whole two hours of debunking or confirming car myths! I'm not sure what was cooler: the re-creation of the car-beating-falling-car-commercial, the two semi's pancaking a compact car or...oh, let's face it: it was the rocket-propelled steel sled pancaking a compact car (the two stages of rockets got the sled-- with a front-sheet of one-inch steel-- up to seven-hundred miles per hour! I would SO love to have one of those high speed video cameras! Still a few decimal points off from being affordable, though.

Bob Edwards interviewed Jamie and Adam on his XM-Sirius show today in honor of their premier: two of my favorite things together-- Mythbusters and Bob Edwards! I think you need to subscribe to listen to episodes online, but they don't ask for much (about $12/month). Edwards is such a good interviewer and he brings out the best in his guests.

650MPH rocket sleds are hard to beat. Though.. the 50lbs of explosive was neat in slo mo. They SHOULD'VE put the cart of tomatoes in the MIDDLE!

We only tend to get the older re-runs on the freeview here.
But I tell you now - I want a rocket powered doom sled :D

Speaking of geeky ... Jamie and Adam are the celebrity guests at this year's IBM Rational Software Conference. Coolness.

Oh, that sled was doomed, all right. :)

D'oh! I missed it. Good thing Discovery repeats shows.

I have to say, the rocket sled segment was my favorite, by far. :)

Why didn't THEY think of that?!? The 50lbs of explosive makes a good argument for itself as being coolest...the new digital slo-mo cams are SO AMAZING! Want! Seeing the shock wave was just amazing.

The actual effect of explosive fusing I can understand: it's just sword-making on a grand scale. You can do the same thing with a big hammer and some iron (but, granted, it doesn't look nearly as good!).

Doom-Doom-Doom... (the "Doom" song)

The super-slo-mo on that one was...nothing I was expecting. That it happened so fast that the car pretty much vaporized and you could actually see a shadow-cloud of the car's paint in the air after the sled passed...wow.

I hope I'm not giving spoilers here...but I really don't think words are adequate to describe the actual event.

IBM achieves coolness.

The Apocalypse, definitely.

I like that Discovery follows in the fine tradition of PBS with endless repeat showings...and this one is not to be missed! They have finally gotten the huge budget they deserve.

The show can best be described as "The Dukes of Hazzard meet 'Science'."

Yeah, I actually saw the repeat a few hours later that was intended for "west coast viewers". I just happened to up real late.
