In honor of the Fall Equinox, have a split-face border collie! (<--Get it?)

This is one of Apache's brothers, Liffy!
One of my favorite-yet-least-publicly-celebrated days of the year. Because today is the first day of fall, my favorite season. Cooler walks, blowing leaves and Halloween.
A lot has been going on, but I've been so busy with the "a lot" that I've neglected my journal. Blue Meanies, SDCC, Worldcon, two baseball games and a load of other things to post about, but the day job just kicked it into high gear. It's all good, though.
Took time to run the dogs around the block today (it's a long, hilly block!) and saw that we have a local merlin! I've loved these small falcons for ages, but they're so secretive that I'd only seen one in the wild previously. Turns out that there is at least one local bird: he (too small to be a "she") had caught a small bird and was on the sidewalk ahead of us dealing with it. The dogs thankfully let themselves be called back and I was able to see it loft into a tree. Now I have something neat to keep an eye out for on future walks!
Anyway...just a quick post to say that the dogs are fat and happy, I'm fine and busy doing what I love and generally things could be a helluva whole lot better but I can honestly say that I'm happy. So far 2011 has been as good as the previous 2-3 years have been bad. Fingers crossed that 2012 (barring any ends-of-the-world events) can keep it up!
