bcrfunday

Last Saturday was the BCR Halloween Funday! I'd been looking forward to this for a long time: the idea of a bunch of border collies in costumes sounded too good! As usual, the drive out there was through one of the most desolate areas-- a flat wasteland broken only by ancient cindercones.

This pic would be most interesting for a geologist (or geol-fan): it shows a progression of cindercones formed either by a long crack in the crust or (more likely given the area) a pipe that the surface plate moved over (like the Hawaiian Island chain was formed).

The turnout was lower than usual (the Christmas get-together is easily the biggest event of the year) but how can dozens of border collies and a potluck lunch where dogs are allowed to wander *everywhere* -not- be fun? I sat with Cutter and his owner. Cutter is a bc rescue who I met last year when he was a basket-case: shy, nervous and stressed almost to the point of shutting down. It took me fifteen minutes to get him to approach me that time: now he's happy and social and accepting treats from me. His owner, Lorrie ( shown here holding a puppy! ) is due a huge credit for her work with him-- let alone taking him in the first place!

There was a ton of food. About half of it went into canine mouths...

I was disappointed to find that there were few costumes! I think I counted, maybe five ( including Rondo's costume ). There was a dinosaur , a pirate, a princess and (wish I'd thought of this) a skunk-dog!

Some unusual dogs: here's a red splitty (split-face)

The most unusual dog was Hopper: can you figure out his deal? (Hint: look at his shadow!)
hopper

Hopper's a neat dog who competes in agility and is an avid sheep-herder!

Another terrific get-together! Maybe someday I can convince JC or Eric to bring their dogs out. I know the BC people would LOVE to see Taiko in-person!

Next event is the Christmas event : December 9th, 2006! *HINT*
