Poor Fred Patten!
Mar. 13th, 2005 01:06 amPlease send your thoughts and dog-karma to Fred: he suffered a stroke on Friday. They don't believe it's related to his recent bout with pneumonia, but I'm sure that didn't help. He's back at Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital; he is alert and conscious and would love to have visitors (but contact the hospital first to check for visiting hours and his availability). He has lost some mobility on his right side, but time will tell what the long-term effects will be.
For those of you who don't know Fred, he is considered the founder of "anime" fandom outside of Japan. He co-hosted Japanese anime show screenings in the late 70's and his name is well-known to artists and directors in Japan. He is also a long-time sf fan: if you ever need to know anything related to science fiction books, manga or anime-- Fred is your man! Take care, Fred!
