The Tonys (*Arrgh!*)

I forgot 'em! It's not the first year I've done this. The Tonys don't get nearly the kill-hype that the Oscars (which I actively TRY to avoid) get, so it often falls under my media radar. Another sign I don't watch enough mainstream television, I guess.

Happy to hear that Hairspray won: it's a cute show. I don't think it's anywhere near the calibre of Les Mis or Cats or even a number of shows that -didn't- win (Scarlet Pimpernel, any Sondheim show that didn't win). But it was a lean year...

I was also amused to hear that Howard Stern didn't get it. The guy with the ciggy voice playing her mom is FUH-NEEE. A JOOOOKE. Here's her trashy mom, very much -not- the picture of the typical heroine's mother, who opens her mouth and this cement-mixer voice comes out. Hilarious in the show! And the lead (who really is a full-figured actress) is another nice change from the typical media-blitzed anorexic.

But I missed 'em! Blargh. Have to see if any of my musical-geek friends taped or tivo'd the show...
