It's been a week of events and non-events: This last weekend was an expedition to the Reptile show with the Critter Posse. A satisfying variety of frogs and bugz (ugh) and I managed to resist buying anything, which is good since I've given my own three frogs to Trace. They satisfied the desire for the Ultimate Terrarium for the year I had them; however, having them cared for when I went out of town was a big affair. They have a nice home now at least.
I've also been moping about missing the last performances of Les Mis on Broadway. This was one of three shows that were seminal to my love of the theater: Pacific Overatures, Cats, and Les Mis all changed the way I thought of musical theater. Pacific Overatures was like no traditional musical I'd ever seen... I still love that show (but have yet to see a production that even approaches the original touring cast). Cats opened my eyes to immersive theater. Les Mis... well, it was just overpowering. I've dragged a ton of people to see it over the years and have yet to hear any complaints.
Right now I'm listening to the German cast of LM. This is one of the more harsh and gutteral (lots of saliva)... but there are some songs that are better than other casts. Someday I'll do the ultimate Les Mis show-- the best tracks/performers from all the versions I own.
I'm hoping that the production company for Les Mis has a garage sale like the ones that Cats had when they closed-- I missed that sale, but at the Broadway Flea Market they had the leftovers, including costumes and props and set pieces. For Les Mis? How about Javert's great-coat? A few more tricolors... a flag... the fanboy oggles and hopes!
