The Burning Season

It's that time a year: L.A. County burns down . Malibu is on fire again-- the famous Malibu Castle burnt to the ground!! So did the Presbyterian church! Several homes and businesses in "The Malibu Colony" burnt down. Many celebrities (writers, artists, show people) live there and the fire travelled so fast that many belongings and historical items were lost. Terrible.

The Santa Ana winds are roaring into town: we've had gusts over 70mph where I live. Sustained winds are around 35mph. The physics of the winds coming from the high desert to the lower coastal areas creates a phenomena called "compression heating" and creates hot, dry winds. The same wind that gives L.A. temps in the 90's in the middle of winter turns even a small fire into an inferno in no time at all. Those winds can literally carry a ten-pound, burning log for miles before dropping it somewhere miles away. Good luck, fire-fighters!

I THOUGHT I saw smoke in the skies yesterday evening.

Horrible...

Just found out there's a fire in Santa Rosa Valley, which is about 20-25 minutes northwest of me...

Jeez... that's so terrible. We might as well call those winds a hurricane/tornado, etc.
Good luck to the firefighters indeed..

Plus fires in Castaic, Agua Dulce, Placerita Canyon Rd, and something near the Plum and Bouquet intersection.

Sky is red.
