On the road again: Seattle
Getting things in order so I can head up to Seattle. I'll be packing dogs this time, too. Groomer tomorrow...travel health certs Wednesday...house-sitter instructions. Zoom.
Catching up: I was finally able to make a performance of "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings" by Eric Whitacre at the Boston Court Theater. Wow. This show was everything Iisaw said it would be: an unlikely mix of anime, martial arts, cyberpunk/deadtech, angles and devils. What a visual feast and a terrific twist ending! This show was so hot that tickets could not be had -anywhere-!
Of course, I ignored Iisaw and Carol's suggestion that I get tickets asap (months ago). When I showed up early to try and get a cancellation ticket or SRO tix, I was SoL. Totally. One person got in (and I was, like, eighth on the list).
BUT! A theater saavy friend suggested that I ask about being an usher. Now, in New York the ushers have a *powerful* union...pointing someone to a seat could get you arrested! (Well, not really, but it feels that way sometimes). So ushering seemed unlikely to me-- especially considering that I'd never been to that theater before. When I couldn't get in, I asked (in some desperation) if I could usher...and they said, "Oh, sure! We'll put you on the list! Show up blahblahblah..." Wow! So I get there early and they gave me the whole tour (small 99-seat theater, but *gorgeous!*). Since it was open seating, all I had to do was take tickets. They were really nice folks and I had good conversations with the management before the doors opened about this theater and independent theater in general. They, in turn, were grateful for the extra help and even gave me a printed ticket with my name on it for my souvineer. Wonderful evening! Thanks for the heads-up, I&C!
